Well...

I know, I have been busy and the time is just flying by. Working, sewing, sewing, sewing I hardly have time to take pictures, type, edit and such. I know you want to know what I'm up to. I promise I will try to do better.

I think I started this in 2010. I have a long way to go to finish but maybe 2014 will be the finish what you started year.

Paper piece - started 2010

This is about all the decorating I've done so far this year.

Mikes computer tree
Here is the tree I gave Mike last year but he put it somewhere and can't find it.

Here is another finish it up project for this year.

Sparky  2012
I was looking through the photos I transferred off my SD card and came across this one of my shadow. Sparky always thinks I want to photograph him. He has such tiny feet!

From Larry, Hawaii  October 2013
This is a lei given to me by a dear friend from Kauai while I was in Hawaii in October. It was so unusual I had to get a photo. I also thought it could be inspiration for a quilt design. I'll think about that.

Red dragon fruit. Hawaii October 2013
Last but not least this is something my son served us at breakfast one morning in Hawaii along with the usual fresh pineapple and papaya. He said it had a wonderful taste and texture. He was right! I have no description except it was sweet and juicy. If you ever have the opportunity to eat dragon fruit, give it a try as there is nothing quite the same.

Tuesday with the Girls

I worked a long time yesterday on my sewing projects but I never took out my sewing machine! I did get one of the girls to sew a couple of seams towards the end of the evening because I saw a hourglass quilt and wanted to try it out. I made my first quarter square triangle blocks! Well, she and I made it.

First quarter square triangles  March 2013

They are so fun. It is just like Christmas when you open them up and the points meet! I have found a few more fabrics I am going to add to give me more placement options. I can also see this quilt in my bright scraps.

Going to our sewing group and not taking out my machine, what a concept. One of the other girls does it regularly! At least she comes and has a great time visiting. I go back on Thursday so no worries, I will get my sewing done.

Bernie is sick, cracked her hook so there is no sewing on her until she gets a new one. Juki is at the store because she hates to be loaded in and out of the trunk more than once a week. Sometime she doesn't mind twice a week but three times, she just won't tolerate it.

I continue to work on my PhD (projects half done) so you should too!

Let It Snow

I'm having another high production year at my sisters house in Connecticut. Sewing to the max, eating lobster and having lots of laughs. I can't share the first project I finished as it is a Christmas exchange with a Modern Quilt Guild member. We are making mini quilts using an inspiration fabric our person gave to us. I am really pleased with my idea and will share it later.

My sister and I have been working together on a quilt that she designed. She made up the pattern with a little help from me so that is pretty exciting. This is a design as you go pattern so it isn't as fast as I am used to. I work on my own quilt during the design time if she takes too long!

M&W quilt  Dec. 2012
We are making progress, slowly but surely!

M&W progress  Dec. 2012

Bleeding light to dark from the center is her goal. You should see what she is going to use in the border row. She has never designed a quilt except on paper so this is a process she had no idea was so involved. Designing as you go and sewing it by the row is a pain, but it has to be done this way. How many rows? I have no idea. I try not to think about it! I leave here on Saturday so it will be finished as far as design goes.

Finally Finished

I was going to wait until I got a picture of the baby girl twins on their quilts but I will post it when I get it. I have been busy working Shop Hop. Great fun. I have never talked so much in two days, ever! Thanks again to Zany Quilter for quilting these. Check out the close up photos here.

Monica's Quilt Nov. 2012

Nicole"s Quilt Nov. 2012
Snapped these photos just as the wind was picking up. Mom wanted orange and yellow for the babies and the Timeless Treasures Pink Lemonade strips were perfect. For someone who has pattern issues this came together without a hitch. For me, that's saying something!

Back and binding Pink Lemonade Nov. 2012

I love the backs and binding.

On my list right now are two more baby quilts, my daughters wedding quilt which we will be working on together. I am really looking forward to that. Wait till you see the pattern. My sisters quilt she designed, MQG challenge quilt and the Christmas exchange for MQG. The toaster quilt that is half finished, The Kaffe fabric one that is half finished and a class that I am taking on Friday, the fabric has to be cut and ready. These are the only the ones I can remember! Oh and my handwork hexies in 1" and 3/8".
