Niece Visit

I have a guest on my blog today that is very special to me. She has been coming to visit me every year for four years. She made a quilt out of fabrics from my stash when she was 12. I cut the blocks for her, given her age, she organized them where she wanted them and proceeded to sew them in rows herself. After she picked the border I put it on, quilted and bound it in time for her to take it home. This girl's got talent!

The next year she learned to make yo-yo's which have never been brought up again! The last two years she has come alone without her mom. Boy, do we have fun!

Hi! I am excited to be a "guest blogger" for my aunt today! My name is Ella and I visit my aunt and other family in Las Vegas every summer from San Diego. Every year when I come to visit, my aunt helps me with a project that I work on during my stay. My first project was my quilt (as seen above), I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it come together in about one week! I still get lots of use from that quilt. This year I have already finished 11 earbud cases for my friends and I also plan on making two boxy bags before I leave!

Summer Sewing

My niece was here for a few weeks this summer and was a lot of help in getting the girl twins quilts going. She loves to use the rotary cutter! She was very good at trimming the corners off. That's why that quilt seem to go together so fast. She drew the lines, I was busy sewing and she trimmed. Now I remember!

I made her a journal cover that fit the first time. I usually have to make two as the first is always too small. If I only knew what I did different! She has a great eye for color and chose her fabrics from my stash.

I think she loves it! We always have such a great time in the sewing room. She walked into my fabric room and said it always makes her so happy to see all the colors. That's my kind of girl! She is working on her yo yo stash too! Could it be possible that she will be anything like her Auntie?

Love the toes! My new favorite color. Yes, it was August and she is under a blanket! She had to share the couch by day with Sparky the cat who sleeps under the quilt at night.

Just to let you know I was not sitting around eating bon bons since my July post! Ongoing projects for when I get bored or need a change. The hexagons are my night sewing projects that I do while watching TV with Husband. Recently I have been working on bindings for all the baby quilts that seem to be never ending. I'm getting there. The toaster quilt is to help use up my stash and trading fabrics with others that are doing the same quilt.

I Finished Mine Too!!!

I was deciding what projects to take on the MQG sewing retreat and came across these pieces I had put together more than a year ago. There were 11 of us so I decided to offer a retreat challenge. I wrapped each one in a small paper envelope with names on them and handed them out. The only instructions were to do with them whatever you like. Someone started working on theirs and got the ball rolling. We were all trying to do something different and checking our scraps for parts and pieces. I finally finished mine. I love journal covers and since no one else did that, I figured I would. There is even some quilting using white thread that you can see in person but barely in the photo. I know, it's not like me to use a simple white thread!
