Tuesday With the Girls

I returned from the Road to California quilt show with lots of ideas and a few patterns. It had been 10 years since I attended a national quilt show. Some friends and I stayed two nights and had a blast. I did buy a selvage book of patterns. I have been saving selvages for years now.

After 11 hours of sewing today I am thrilled with my accomplishments.  I didn't sew any of these blocks together yet but here is what I produced.

Selvage blocks Jan. 2013
They are foundation pieced and brights are all I have so these are going to be pretty colorful. They don't take as long as they look so save your selvages and give it a try. You might be surprised. I find the depth created in these blocks very interesting.

Scrappy Trip Around  Jan. 2013
Here is the beginning of my scrappy trip around. It is popular with lots of bloggers I read so I decided to check out how my stash looks in this pattern. It is fun to do but a bit tricky after eight or nine hours of sewing. I had some 3 strip sets already sewn together for another pattern that I decided not to make so I used those to get started. I guess I was into the food fabrics then.

No Dancing Stars today but they are not forgotten. Just needed something different.

Make time for sewing. It is great therapy!

A Present

I received this bag on Thursday from a friend and it looks like she raided my stash. I own each of these fabrics. She made it with me in mind and boy did she hit the nail on the head! Love the large ric-rak.

Zipper bag   Jan. 2013

I went on a shop hop in St George, Utah yesterday with 12 modern quilt guild ladies. It was a long day with deep discounts and lots of fabric petting involved. A new lady in town had been following our LVMQG blog, learned about our adventure and joined us. She was lots of fun and will be a great addition to our group. Thanks Vic for driving.

Another photo in the bushes! Happy sewing.

Dancing Stars

I worked on my Dancing Stars two long days this week. I forgot how slow paper piecing was. I made progress though. I may very well be tired of this background fabric before it's completed. Right now I love it. My goal is 300 of these babies for a king size. We will see.

First finished Dancing Star Jan 2013
And you think this is the only project I'm working on. Ha! Will keep you posted.

Have happy days.

Dancing Stars

I would show you my progress on Dancing Stars but all the pieces are at the shop because I didn't want to haul my sewing home just to take it back tomorrow for another fun-filled day.

Slow To Get Started

This year has had a slow start but I'm on a roll now. I spent the last week in California with my Dad, cutting fabric and cooking him dinners to put in the freezer. His bar is the perfect height for me to cut for hours on end with no side effects! I have never cut so many squares in such a short time. I left my machine at home so I wouldn't get distracted from my cutting. I'm really excited about my Dancing Stars project.

Squares for Dancing Stars  Jan 2013
I cut thousands of squares including the white ones. I have a sewing day with the girls tomorrow so I am excited to get started.

I have cut enough squares for 300 blocks! King size?

I finished this quilt from my leftover Dresden Plate scraps. First finish for 2013!

No Negative Space Jan 2013
Dad has lots of dinners to eat and I have lots of fabric cut. It was a good trip.

Happy sewing!
