Tuesday With the Girls

I worked for the last three days but today I had fun sewing with the Tuesday Girls, plus one! Yes, my niece is back with me as her cousin has to work. I finished and delivered a play mat to a friend for her grand babies. I quilted it myself on my Juki with red thread and lots of lines. She loves it.

My niece wanted to make a boxy bag for herself and a friend. Hers are the ones on the left and mine is the turquoise one. Surprised? The tiny one is there just to show size. That one is mine too!

We arrived at the store this morning later than usual because we had a hard time getting ourselves going, the car loaded, drinks together etc. I found this wonderful project bag laying on my table with my thread inside. I absolutely LOVE it! All I did was loan a friend some thread. The colors are me and I heard Vic had something to do with the fabric choice. You are such a good fabric picker outer! Thank you Joyce. What a treasure. Is there anything else you want to borrow?!!!

What a fun day... until next time, have a happy!

Bitty Boxy Bags

I was supposed to be getting some fabric cut and I strayed off into bitty boxy bags!

Another photo in the bushes. They are so little I didn't see the little twig on the right until I opened it here. I don't mind the twig. They are tiny and fun. Just perfect for lipstick.

Sparky's girlfriend. Feb 2013

Here is my cat Sparky's only cat friend since our old cat died. She and her mom come by multiple times daily to visit Sparky. They play by the window since Sparky is an indoor cat. He doesn't like the way I talk to her and sometimes refuses to go to the window and say hi and play. She is afraid of me so I can only see her from afar. She and Mom cat have the most beautiful blue eyes. She is very cross-eyed and I'm not sure how well she sees. She's a cutie though.

Have a wonderful Valentines Day.

Home Again

This was the first Hawaii trip since 2006 we experienced rain. It didn't prevent or change any plans though. We had one sunny afternoon out at Ko' Olina that I was able to capture with the camera.

Ko'Olina Feb. 2012

Wouldn't you know on the first morning there the fire alarm would go off and we were on the 11th floor and had to take the stairs to the first floor. I was right in there and by the time we got all the way down they said all was clear, no fire was found. That was nothing compared to the 6.7 earthquake we experienced our first year in 2006 on the 17th floor! I was younger then and 17 flights of stairs was much easier.

On with the fun stuff. We made chickens! Chicken pin cushions.

My friend Shar from Kailua came to Ko'Olina hauling 2 sewing machines, stuff to make chicken pin cushions and a 5 pound sweet potato haupia pie with a macadamia nut pie crust. We had great fun and ate well too!

I also made Shar one of the boxy bags.

After our week at Ko'Olina we were off to the shores near Haleiwa to stay in the beach house. We stayed in the cottage while Auntie, Uncle and cousins stayed in the main house. Husband was helping replace the shower in the main house and since it was still raining Shar and I set our sewing up in the cottage.

Like I said, it was raining and chilly. Poor Shar was cold, so she had on her sweatshirt and socks, in Hawaii I remind you!

It was beautiful even though it rained for a week.

Beach House Cottage  March 2012

Looking left out the bedroom window in the cottage.

Any animals that are around my house for three days get a name. I had a Madagascar Day gecko on the ceiling of the bedroom every night when I went to sleep, so I named her Maddie. I don't know where she went during the day.

The pink spots on her back make her easy to identify from the other local gecko's. Some nights she had all her little feet tucked up under her.The ceiling fan was on and I think she was cold.

Just one more thing. While sitting on the porch with Jay, our cousin who is a sea captain, he spotted the most amazing thing. A moonbow. It is a rainbow in the sky at night made by the reflection of the moon not the sun. It was there for a long time and went from colorful to white and back again. In all his years on the oceans he has only seen 4 in the past so it was a really special treat for all of us.

BTW if there is anyone out there in blogland that wants to buy a house in Hawaii contact Diane Chavez and you can find her here.

Last Ones!

I promise! We leave tomorrow so there won't be any more little boxy bags. The large white one is the size of a big loaf of bread and the little lime ones are the size of the mini loaf. The mini ones I did the same size as the pattern calls for but did the gussets 3.5" instead of 2". I have had all kinds of fun with this pattern.

Check out the pattern here. These are quick and fun to make. I need to order more zippers.

Aloha for now.

I'm Back

...and so are the bags! I have always liked the boxy little bags people were making but I never found a pattern that had enough pictures (those of you that know me know the problems I have with patterns!) until today. I did alter it a little, the way I installed the zipper and adding some zigzag around the edges before I turned it inside out but that was all. Here is where I found the pattern.

Here is the second one I made. The one with the red zipper.

The first one I made was the one with the white zipper. I was so excited, as I was turning it inside out, that the ends came out square and when I tried to zip it up I found I had put the zipper in upside down!!! That's about as far as I could zip it up from the outside.

Won't make the zipper mistake again. Well not on this project anyway. I really like the size of the small one. Too bad it doesn't close.

Happy days full of aloha spirit ahead. Don't forget your fabric therapy!
